What you'll see

We’re pleased to announce the New Spain Art collection is open. There are more than 150 pieces from the New Spain period (1521 to 1820) that are on permanent display at the museum.  Some of the artists in the New Spain exhibit include: Juan Correa, Miguel Cabrera, Cristobal de Villalpando, Jose de Ibarra and Morales Van den Eynden. This art collection is the first of its kind in the United States thanks to the generosity of Juan Carlos Infante and Mary Vargas Infante.

When you enter the art hall, discover how the Manila Galleons played a critical role in transporting New Spain art on its trade route. The Manila Galleon Isabella model ship displays a detailed diorama of life on a ship as imports from Asia were transported from Manila, Philippines to Acapulco, Mexico.
